What’s in a Name?  Onomastics as Evidence for New Testament Reliability

The difficulty of remembering names is attributed to their arbitrary nature, making them harder to recall than other characteristics. The study of names and their origins, Onomastics, reveals a correlation between 1st Century Jewish names in Israel and those in the Gospels and Acts. This suggests the reliability of the biblical accounts. The disambiguation of names further supports this conclusion. The names in the Apocrypha Gospels/Acts, in contrast, do not match 1st Century Israel, indicating a lack of cultural knowledge.
